but i thought it was because of me. you like the heat. much milder monday especially this morning. we are dealing with the milder temperatures. mostly cloudy but dry. we have the clouds streaming in here this morning. we look at temperatures right now. 67 degrees in arnold. good morning to you. you do not need the coat as you head out the door. sykesville at 63 now and northville 64. and the winds are light out of the southwest today. and that's what's going to help to pump in all this heat and we will be flirting with recordheat going through the day. maryland's most powerful radar is dry. we have all five sweeps on. it will stay dry unfortunately because we desperately need that rain. i will talk about the next chances for some rain coming up. but right know now let's check the traffic with angela. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. monday morning has a check of the key routes. a look at i-70 which is moving well. i-795 also. the northwest expressway, traveling around the beltway on

the east side, things are moving pretty good around to the key bridge between i-95 on that stretch. here's a live look at 695 and green spring avenue for those of you making the drive on the north side. traffic is moving fine there as well. we have no early troubles on the harrisburg expressway. but you might want to think of a quicker way to get to work or to get the kids to school this morning if you travel on the jones falls expressway. abc2 news sherrie johnson is live with lane closures and more information. sherrie. >> reporter: good morning. yes, i am out on the jfx. i got my safety vest on. not fashionable but keeping us safe. we are on the jfx where there's lane closures. and as you can see behind me here, traffic is picking up a little bit here. but still not as bad as it is probably going to get. today is the first true test for the jones falls expressway closures. if you can look down here, you can see some of the orange cones that are up on the northbound side blocking some

of the lanes there. now the left lanes at 28th street in both directions were shut down friday for repairs. the lane closures are needed for emergency repairs to collapse drainage pipes under the expressway. the department of transportation says you need the closures for safety reasons and as you can imagine, these closures will mean serious traffic congestion especially during rush hour. drovers say yes, they plan -- drivers say yes, they plan to take alternate routes. some looking at liberty road and falls road and charles street. the repairs and lane closures are expected to last anywhere from six to eight weeks. the department of transportation says you never know once construction starts going. sometimes it could take a little longer. reporting live in downtown baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. this is going to affect a lot of you. so we want to make the commute easier. head to and click on the traffic tab. when you get there, find

alternative routes and ways to avoid congestion on the jfx. today the state is expected to announce the next step in a case involving a brother accused of killing his twin. the mistrial was declared in the case last month because the jury couldn't reach a verdict. he is accused of killing his brother 19-year-old back in 2007. he is being held without bond at a county detention senter. this morning on the -- a hearing will be scheduled to determine when a uva lacrosse player will be sentenced. george huguely was found guilty of second degree murder for killing yeardley love. the jury recommended a 26 year prison sentence. the sentencing day will be set today. in virginia, we will have a moment of silence at 9:43. it was five years ago on this day when we sought deadliest act of gun -- saw the deadliest act of gun violence on a campus. 32 people were killed and prompted congressional action

forcing universities across the country to beef up the alerts and monitoring system. on capitol hill they will uselessons learned from the virginia tech students to attempt to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. collin goodard a survivor of the virginia tech massacre, and other survivors will be there to promote the idea. new this morning, maryland route 665 and u.s. 50, of this reopened about two and a half hours ago after a car hit a anne arundel county police officer. this happened during a traffic stop around 9:00 last night. two vehicles were coming around the corner when one rear ended the other. it then hit the officer. three people ran from the scene. two were arrested and police are searching for the third person. the officer's injuries are not life-threatening. a big celebration in the streets of d.c. >> stay with us, the gift of trees that brought thousands out to say thank you and show appreciation. >> she used the titanic memorial cruise to honor one man who loved all things about

side of 695. here's live look at u.s. one and bel air road. top side is cleared over to the harrisburg expressway. of course if anything changes, you can find out on twitter by following us all morning long on maryland traffic. now let's check the forecast, the warm forecast and for that we go to lynette charles. >> reporter: good morning. yes, it's warm out there right now. temperature in baltimore 65 degrees. more of the same in dc. easton 63. 52 in frederick right now. 64 in hagerstown and 61 in york. so, yes, very mild this morning. it's going to get even warmer as we go into the afternoon. satellite and radar picking up on a few high clouds streaming in across the area. but we will get plenty of sunshine working its way in here. as we go throughout the day. plenty of warm weather and borderline hot. we are flirting with record heat for today. the record was set in 2002 and it was 90 degrees. i am going with 87. we will see how that pans out. but there's the area of high

pressure out into the atlantic as of now. and with that, you are getting the clockwise flow around high pressure pumping in the warm southwesterly breeze. and that's what we will feel this morning and this afternoon. future trend has showers back across the west working their way off towards the east. for the most part, that should stay away from us for today. western maryland, if you aregoing there today. they are in a slight risk for severe weather. the storm prediction center has them in that. but us, we have a slight chance for maybe a shower to creep in late tonight early into tomorrow morning and that's much needed rain. but it's not going to be a soaker. we will have to wait for the soaker probably until the weekend. but our next chance for showers work their way in here as we go into wednesday morning. just in time for the commute to work. so it could be a little slick for today. there's the 87 degrees i am forecasting. the mix of sun and clouds by tonight. and that temperature will be 61 degrees. partly cloudy and mild. and here's forecast for tomorrow. 74 degrees and not as warm.

news around the world the trial of the man accused of killing 77 people and a bomb and gun rampage last sumer is underway right now. he was charged last month with committing acts of terror and voluntary homicide. this morning, he pleaded not guilty. he is accused of killing 8 people in a bombing attack and going to an island outside the city and gunning down 69 more people. many of them were teens and young adults. more explosion and gunfire was heard overnight in kabul with insurgent attacks entering a second day. taliban attacked embassies, government ed byings and nato by as saying it was their response to officials' claims the insurgency was weak. authorities say that one police officer and 17 militants were killed in the attacks and it's unclear whether insurgents are still holed up or whether or not the gunfire and explosions were part of the clearing
